As the Philippine economy rises, the growth of its digital economy and the exchange of data also increase through social media, e-commerce, and cyber & digital marketing. Such rise also affects the current landscape of data security, privacy, and ethical ways on how companies or a specific individual should use personal data.
For this reason, the Philippines passed Republic Act (RA) 10173 otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012 with the aim to "protect the fundamental human right to privacy, of communication while ensuring the free flow of information to promote innovation and growth".
The importance of protecting and securing our personal information cannot be more emphasized than at this time of the pandemic where almost everything is being conducted online. It is worthy to note that from education to businesses, to conducting meetings and even conferences, information and data is exposed to risks such as loss and breaches.
