AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in 2016, he consistently reminded both the government and the private sector to improve the quality of services they offer. Part of the development priorities of the administration identified the importance of a better connectivity to induce investments and promote inclusivity in the country.

The government has been very committed to firm up the country's connectivity, competitiveness, and economic growth by establishing the Department of Information and Communications Technology and launching the National Broadband Plan in 2017 which aims to connect government offices and provide internet services to underserved/ unserved sectors. The President also initiated the search for a new telecommunication company.

The private sector, through the chamber supports effective policies and government initiatives that would give robust development opportunities for the Philippine IT industry.

In line with this, the American Chamber of Commerce is organizing a committee luncheon meeting entitled: "Gearing towards the Digital Age: Philippine DICT Updates".

The event aims to gather both the private sector and the government to dialogue and discuss challenges faced by the IT sector in the country, it also intends to showcase opportunities that is brought about by the ever changing digital landscape in the country.
