AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Event Details

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines will be hosting its Virtual General Membership Meeting on March 17, 2021 (Wednesday) from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, via Zoom.

The Philippine government is doing its best to respond to the coronavirus crisis with speed and magnitude of financial assistance to help the nation and protect the most vulnerable. In this unprecedented time, the Department of Finance is striving to support our countrymen by providing opportunities, financial support, development, and relief for the poorest. They are focused on prioritizing spending and using resources efficiently to achieve financial stability.

For this meeting, we have invited Secretary Carlos Dominguez of the Department of Finance to discuss and present the department's assessment of the immediate effects of COVID-19 on financial sentiment, needs, and expectations of the country, along with their plans to set the stage for Philippine economic recovery from the depths of the crisis.

Sec. Carlos Dominguez

Secretary at Department of Finance

Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez has over 40 years of experience managing various organizations in the public and private sectors. He was a shareholder, and board chairman or member of over a dozen corporations across various industries such as power, agriculture, mining, banking, hospitality, real estate, and investment.

Notable positions held by Sonny were Cabinet Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources and Agriculture during the Presidency of Corazon Aquino. He also presided over leading Philippine corporations such as Philippine Airlines, the Philippine Associate Smelting and Refining Corporation, and the former Bank of the Philippine Islands' Agricultural Bank.

Sonny has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Ateneo De Manila University, and attended the Executive Management Program at the Stanford University.
