Flooding has become one of the most persistent and devastating natural disasters in the Philippines, mainly due to its geographic location and the increasing impact of climate change. The country, being an archipelago, is vulnerable to typhoons, torrential rain, and rising sea levels, which exacerbate flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Major urban centers, such as Metro Manila, have experienced significant losses in terms of property, infrastructure, and lives due to flooding events over the years.
Despite various efforts by the government and other stakeholders, the frequency and intensity of floods continue to rise, highlighting the need for comprehensive and innovative strategies in flood management, disaster preparedness, and infrastructure resilience. A more coordinated effort among local communities, government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and international partners is critical to developing sustainable flood mitigation strategies.
With that said, the AmCham Infrastructure and Logistics Committee together with the Environment and Urban Development Committee will host a session entitled "Unclogging the Drain: Updates on Flooding Development and Mitigation Strategies in Metro Manila" to be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the AmCham Robert Sears Hall. This event will gather experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss solutions to flooding in the Philippines. It will serve as a platform to share insights, showcase technologies, and develop partnerships that can lead to long-term flooding solutions and sustainable urban development.
