With the increasing frequency and severity of disasters brought by climate change, it is both inevitable and necessary to establish an institution that would focus on vulnerable and disaster prone areas, as well as exert effort in strengthening the resilience of communities in the Philippines. In 2009, the Office of the President issued Executive Order No. 838, which created the Public Commission, mandated to lead reconstruction initiatives that would help communities affected by disasters and calamities. In the same year, some of the country's largest companies and non-government organizations (NGO) were tapped to establish what is now the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF). Today, PDRF is the country's main private sector vehicle and coordinator for disaster management. It promotes disaster preparedness, relief, and recovery. Through working with reputable humanitarian institutions and experts in the field, PDRF organizes and provides private sector solutions to disaster management.

In line with this, the chamber's Overseas Security Advisory Committee and Security and Disaster Resources Group (OSAC/SDRG) will have a committee meeting on 20 June 2019, at 2 PM to 4 PM entitled "The Foundation of Improved Disaster Management and Response: PDRF and Stronger Companies." The event intends to gather key stakeholders to discuss the agendas and initiatives to promote disaster preparedness in the Philippines.
