The discussion will be led by guest speaker Dr. Nihar Nayak, who will talk about the Left Wing Extremism/Naxal Conflict, its origin, objective, strategy and tactics, and external linkages of the Communist Party of India in Peru, Nepal, Philippines, and others. Moreover, the speaker will discuss the conflict's impact on security, society, diplomacy, and the economy. In line with this the speaker will take about the state responses and lastly, the challenges that the state continues to face.

Dr. Nihar R. Nayak

Research Fellow at Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA)

Dr. Nihar R. Nayak is Research Fellow with the MP-IDSA, New Delhi. His area of expertise is Climate Change impact in the Himalayan region, non-traditional security, Maoist conflict and cooperative security in South Asia. Dr. Nayak has completed PhD in International Politics from JNU. He was Visiting Fellow to PRIO, Oslo, from June 6 to July 7, 2006 and July 2007. He did a special course on Peace Research in International Summer School from Oslo University in 2007. He has been Visiting Faculty to the Center for the Study of Nepal, Faculty of Social Science, Banaras Hindu University in 2011. He has been Guest Faculty to LBSNAA, Mussoorie, from September 2006 to June 2012. He is also consulting editor of South Asian Conflict Monitor (SACM), which is published (monthly) by the Society for the Study of Peace and Conflict (SSPC), New Delhi. Dr. Nayak has both national and international publications including the book “Strategic Himalayas: Republican Nepal and External Powers”.
