The committee has invited RADM Rommel Jude Ong (Ret) to discuss the topic Looking North: Challenges and Opportunities for Security Cooperation for the Philippines. The speaker would have a broad strokes discussion about maritime security- related engagement with Japan and Taiwan, geopolitical considerations that favors maritime cooperation among PH, Japan, Taiwan (even the US). He will also share insights about prior engagements with Japan and Taiwan and finally, showcase opportunities for engagement among PH, Japan and Taiwan.

RAdm. Rommel Jude Ong PN (Ret.)

Professor at Ateneo School of Government (ASOG)

RADM Rommel Jude Ong (Ret) is currently serving as a Professor of Praxis in the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG). He is part of the national security team at ASOG, which manages the academic and policy studies of the school involving the security sector. He also serves as the Program Director of the Masters in Public Management (MPM) Twinning Program, which is a collaboration between the ASOG and the AFP Education, Training, Doctrine Command. Currently he is supervising two classes made up of AFP officers undergoing their General Staff Corps training.

Rommel Jude Ong is an experienced naval officer who specialized in strategic planning, operations, intelligence, and naval diplomacy. He was formerly the Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy until his compulsory retirement from military service. Prior to that, he served as the Naval Inspector General, the Assistant Chief of Joint staff for Operations (AJ3), and the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations (N3). He has also commanded the Naval Forces West, Naval Task Forces 11 and 80, the Naval Intelligence Security Force, and three (3) commissioned naval vessels.
