John AvrettEconomic Officer at U.S. Embassy Manila
John is an economic-coned Foreign Service Officer who recently arrived at U.S. Embassy Manila in July 2021. He covers trade and investment issues for the Embassy’s Economic Section. Previously, John served as a Political Officer covering the human rights portfolio at U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan. He also spent one year working as Executive Staff Assistant to Ambassador Henry Wooster and Embassy Amman’s Front Office.
From 2016-2018 he served as Vice Consul at the U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo, Brazil, where he worked as a visa officer and reported on Brazil’s burgeoning renewable energy sector. Before the Foreign Service, John worked as an electrical engineer doing research and managing various science and technology projects for Air Force Space Command. John received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, John is happily married to an international teacher (and former Olympic synchronized swimmer) Meghan; they have a two-and-a-half-year-old son, Forest, and an eight-month-old daughter, Wynne.
