AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Event Details

The Creative Industries Committee is organizing a webinar on "Why it is Extremely Important for the 18th Congress to Approve the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act" on October 6, 2021 (Wednesday) from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM through Zoom. The meeting is the second webinar of the chamber's Creative Industries Committee and focuses on the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, the bill's scope and role in the development of the Philippine creative economy, and prospects for passage.

During his opening speech for the third session of the 18th Congress in July, House Speaker Velasco identified the bill as one of the priority measures of the House of Representatives. The bill was approved second reading on September 13 after prior extensive deliberation in the Special Committee on Creative Industries and Performing Arts. In the Senate, deliberation on the counterpart bill has also been initiated by the Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship.

In an August 31 press statement, AmCham emphasized that "[p]assage of the legislation creating strong institutional bodies, plans, and incentives at the national and local level is crucial to achieving the Philippine goal of becoming the top creative economy in the ASEAN region in terms of size and value by 2030." AmCham together with the Joint Foreign Chambers has long advocated for Creative Industries as one of the Seven Big Winner Sectors published in the 2010 Arangkada advocacy document.

Please join us as we listen and interact with legislators, government officials, and experts who are actively involved in pursuing this reform. Be more aware of the creative industry potential of the Philippines! You do not have to be a member of AmCham to attend, but you are welcome to become a member. Government and media guests are likewise most welcome, as our friends from abroad, especially the United States, may wish to trade and invest in this rising sector.
