Sustainability Reporting Mandatory by 2023 Featuring: International Care Ministries

Sustainability Reporting will be mandatory for Publicly Listed Companies (PLC) come 2023. Aside from the annual reporting of these companies, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will now require the submission of Sustainability Reporting. This report involves practices and the organization's practice and application on significant economic, environmental, and/or social impacts, in accordance with globally accepted standards These disclosures enable organizations to measure, understand and communicate their EESG (economic, environmental, social, and governance) impacts in a given year/s.

AmCham has various NGO members in which our corporate partners can create partnerships and cultivate widened practices of EESG. AmCham envisions showcasing each member's works in a series of webinars in the coming months.

This month, AmCham will be featuring the story and works of a long-time member and partner of AmCham, International Care Ministries.

Atty. Kelvin Lester K. Lee is a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Philippines. He is also a Law Professor of the Rizal Memorial Colleges School of Law, a Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Lecturer for
various institutions, and a Business Columnist of the Manila Times newspaper. He is a frequent keynote speaker and lecturer on Corporate Law, Corporate Governance, SEC Regulations, and Fintech.

As Commissioner, Atty. Lee supervises the Corporate Governance and Finance Department (CGFD) and the Information and Communications Technology Department (ICTD) of the SEC. He also helped establish, and currently supervises, the International Affairs Unit (IAU) and the PhiliFintech Innovation Office of the
Commission.

Prior to joining the Commission, he served as an Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) of the Office of the President of the Philippines (OP) where, among other duties, he was designated to sit on the Board of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and was Acting Chair of the Board of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA). He was also appointed Chair of the OP - Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Appeals Committee.

Before entering government service, Atty. Lee practiced law and was an Opinion and Legal Columnist of the Sunstar Davao newspaper.

He has a Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and certificates from executive education programs on Private and Public International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law, on Securities Regulation from the Toronto Centre, and on Fintech and Regulatory Innovation from the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge.

David Sutherland is the Chair of the Board for International Care Ministries, a charity that has transformed the lives of more than 1 million ultra-poor Filipinos through a partnership with 10,000 slum churches.

Since 1999, David has successfully scaled ICM from a small start-up charity to a US$10M charity. Until early 2013, David was Morgan Stanley’s Chief Financial Officer in the Asia Pacific, responsible for the company’s businesses in China, India, Korea, Australia, and other countries. Before his role as CFO, David spent more than a decade as a Morgan Stanley Managing Director, overseeing its tax department in Asia.

Prior to Asia, David worked for Arthur Andersen; Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft; Caplin & Drysdale; and the U.S. Department of Treasury where he was the Associate International Tax Counsel. In addition to his role with ICM, David also serves as the board chair of Asian Charity Services and Friends of Hong Kong Charities.
