AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

Public transportation is considered as the backbone of major cities, as it provides a critical daily service to thousands of people. In Metro Manila alone, majority of people rely solely on buses, railways, and jeepneys to get to work and come home. However, the transport sector continues to combat new challenges during this global health and economic crisis.

We are very honored to have Department of Transportation Secretary Hon. Arthur Tugade discuss the DOTr's contribution to fighting the challenges that COVID-19 brought and the transport sector's response to future obstacles. He will also share what's being done to keep public transport services running, especially the integrated action plans/guidelines that will ensure passenger's safety.

Atty. Arthur Tugade was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Clark Development Corporation in 2012. Under his leadership, CDC reported a record-breaking P1.49 billion ($32.10 million) worth of revenues from 2013 to 2015 and was hailed Company of the Year by the Asia CEO Forum.

As current Department of Transportation Secretary, the multi-awarded executive and businessman brings with him nearly five decades of professional experience, marked with his values of hard work and incorruptibility. Upon his assumption into office, Tugade vowed to fight corruption and institute a modern, efficient, and environment-friendly transport system. He hopes that by the end of his term, he will impart a 30-year roadmap that will suppress traffic congestion and establish a consolidated nationwide transportation system.
