AmCham Visayas

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

The COVID-19 crisis changed the global consumer landscape. Quarantine regulations pushed consumers to do business online and changed their purchasing behavior.

With October being Consumer Welfare Month, let's hear it from the agency tasked to foster a developing industry and services sector that can help generate jobs, trigger inclusive growth, and uphold consumer rights. Let DTI Assistant Secretary Asteria C. Caberte share how the agency is focusing its efforts to protect consumers, and what strategies will they use to help build fair and sustainable economies, especially in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Associate Secretary, Regional Operations Group at Department of Trade and Industry

Prior to her appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, Asec. Asteria C. Caberte was the Regional Director of DTI-Region 7 Central Visayas for 20 years. She was conferred with the Executive of the Year Award (2013) under the System on Performance, Rewards and Incentives of the DTI. She also received the Secretarys Award for the Conduct of Diskwento Caravan for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Asec. Caberte obtained her BS Degree in Business Administration major in Economics from the University of San Carlos (Cebu City) and holds an MBA Degree in Business Management from the University of the Philippines (Cebu City).

Her civil service career commenced in the Ministry of Industry Medium and Small Coordinated Action Program (MASICAP). She then became DTI Bohol’s Provincial Director from 1992 to 1998 before becoming DTI Central Visayas Regional Director.

In July 22, 2020, she was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the DTI - Regional Operations Group.
