Every piece of trash to be recycled or deposited in a landfill equates to one less dangerous item for birds, turtles or whales to swallow. There is compelling evidence that cleanup campaigns do make a difference and not just in the short term. It serves to educate on how much trash is produced daily inspiring volunteers to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics, and crucially, to spread the word to others.
