The Tourism and Hospitality (TH) committee of the Chamber is spearheading a discussion on "Checking Back In: Resurgence of the Hotel Industry" on the 3rd of November from 10:00 to 11:30 AM with Bruce Winton of Marriott International, Jose Mari Del Rosario of PHINMA Microtel Hotels, and John Rice of Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila.

Bruce Winton was named Multi-Property Vice President Philippines for Marriott International in January 2021. Previous Bruce served as Cluster General Manager of the Marriott Hotel Manila, Courtyard by Marriott in Iloilo, and the Sheraton Manila. A 31 year veteran of Marriott International, Bruce has worked his way up through the ranks from culinary intern spending 19 years in the USA in Boston and Washington DC, before transitioning to Seoul Korea in 2008. Bruce has worked in the Philippines since 2010, initially as General Manager of the Cebu City Marriott.

A graduate of Napier University in Edinburgh Scotland and The University of Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, NH with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Administration, he has completed an Executive Leadership Certificate through Cornell University and Executive Education in Strategy at Harvard Business School.

Bruce has been recognized many times at Marriott International including General Manager of the Year for Marriott Asia-Pacific in 2012 and more recently again in 2017. In 2018 Marriott Hotel Manila was named Hotel of the Year for Marriott in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Bruce is passionate about providing ongoing opportunities for the talented workforce of the Philippines and advocates actively for legislation that enables job creation. His focus now turns to Tourism and Business recovery for the Philippine Hotel Sector. He has sat on the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines for a total of 7 years (3 on the Visayas Board) and is a Past 1 st Vice-President and Past President of AMCHAM Philippines.

Active in the community, Bruce has also chaired Marriott’s Philippine Business Council, engaging his General Managers and all associates across multiple brands and business functions to work on shared business challenges, as well as community and government affairs, to collectively make a stronger impact in the Philippines.

He is married to Christina Diaz and has 2 teenage children, Alexandra and Colin.

Jose Mari del Rosario is the CEO of PHINMA Microtel Hotels Inc., Philippine master franchise holder of Microtel and TRYP by Wyndham, international hotel chains under the US-based Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Presently, there are 14 Microtels & 1 TRYP operating in key business hubs and resort locations in the country, all managed by PHINMA Hospitality Inc.

Mr. del Rosario has 30+ years of extensive domestic and international management experience in the hospitality industry. Presently, he sits on the Board of Directors of the Philippine Franchise Association and Philippine Hotel Owners Association.

He was honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 - Industry Entrepreneur award for his game-changing role in the hospitality industry. He was also recognized by GoNegosyo as Most Inspiring Tourism Entrepreneur in 2007.

As the pre-opening General Manager, John joined Shangri-La at the Fort Manila in October 2014. He has been with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts for the past 20 years. Prior to the Fort, he was the Area General Manager of China World Beijing, which is part of the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

He is Australian and has been living in Asia for the past 18 years. He is not new to Manila as he was the General Manager of Edsa Shangri-La in the early 2000’s. He is very passionate about food, which is why he has been very hands-on with the conceptualization of all the F&B outlets in Shangri-La at the Fort.

Last June 2019, He was promoted to Vice President- Operations (Philippines)/General Manager. He oversees the group’s hotels and resorts in the Philippines.
