AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Event Details

The severity of the pandemic today has become worse due to the increased number of positive cases, newfound strain of the virus, and the absence of an effective vaccine that is readily available for administration, among others. In the hopes and aims of combatting COVID-19, most if not all people have undertaken massive precautionary measures to protect themselves from getting infected.

Preventive courses such as wearing a face mask and face shield, taking of daily vitamins, often washing and sanitizing of hands, disinfecting of belongings are consistently executed by many. Alongside, the demand for the products utilized to perform the actions stated above is prone to fraudulent activities. It gives leeway for criminals to take advantage of people by offering fake and counterfeit goods, especially, with the high demand-low supply phase.

Now that we are in the current state of developing treatments for the virus, there are a number of risk factors attached to it that need to be considered. No matter how pleasing to the ears these developments may be, guards should not be let down, in fact, must be built higher. With massive unemployment, there is a big possibility for people to patronize cheaper, more affordable products which make them vulnerable to counterfeited products and other fraudulent activities that may be of harm to them. Particularly, the purchasing of unaccredited masks, medicines, treatments, fake testing kits and the like.
