COVID-19 brought an unprecedented change to the workplace from offline to entirely online operations of many businesses. The shift to work from home arrangements and services offered virtually became imperative for businesses to continue to survive. With most businesses in the virtual realm, cybercrimes have become more rampant, which results in disruptive business operations.

With the great involvement of technology nowadays, the real questions chase us: how do we respond to cyberfraud and other cybercrimes? What measures are to be taken to ensure that we are safe and secure from cybercrimes? What are the possible indicators of cybercrimes? What preventive measures must be undertaken to promote cybersecurity? How do we protect ourselves from intruders and cyber attacks? Given that we have been victimized by cybercriminals, how do we address such concerns and respond to other business challenges? Mel Migrino is the Vice President and the Group Chief Information Security Officer of Meralco. She has more than 20 years experience in Information Security Management, Privacy, Cyber Security Operations Center, Business Continuity, Risk Management, Disaster Recovery, IT Audit and Project Management. She led the Non-Banking Sector of the National Privacy Commission to carry on its journey towards compliance to the Philippines Data Privacy Act of 2012.

Prior to joining Meralco, she was the Vice President for Information Security, Privacy and Enterprise Risk Management of the leading Fintech Company wherein she established the compliance program on Data Privacy and led the strategy for full endpoint protection, strengthened the application security and infrastructure security and led the development of the Security Operations Center and spearheaded the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and initiatives. Also, she served as the Cyber Security Director of Deloitte Philippines where she expanded the cyber security capability in the Philippines and increased the footprint of the firm in the local market by establishing strategic partnerships in the Philippines and within Asia Pacific.

Beng Manahan has solid experience in the Telco and IT industries, having started his career more than 25 years ago. He held various management positions in Sales and Marketing, Product Management, and Business Development while working for both local and international Telcos like Eastern Telecoms, ePLDT, PLDT Global and Asia Netcom (now Telstra). He also worked for various multinational Telcos and IT vendors such as Lucent, Nokia and IBM.

He was very instrumental in closing the $200M GSM expansion deal for Smart during his stint with Nokia. He also developed and set-up the MVNO business of PLDT in Malaysia and United Kingdom in 2011 and 2012, respectively. In the early part of his career, he was a college professor in Don Bosco Technical College, where he graduated as a BS Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE).
Currently, he is heading the Sales and Commercial Group of Radius Telecoms, a fully-owned subsidiary and telecommunications company of Meralco. He has significantly contributed to the growth of the business, both topline and bottomline, in the last 7 years he is with the company.

Al Solis, Jr. has more than twenty years of cross-functional experience in Sales & Marketing, Business Development, International Business, Product Innovation, Engineering and Strategy Formulation in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry.

He is currently the Vice President and Head of Product and Business Development of Radius Telecoms. He provides company direction for the overall product strategy and profitability. He is responsible for conceptualization, design, analysis, innovation and approval of new products and services. He develops business plans and secures management approval for major projects of the company.

Prior to joining Radius, he was a Product Consultant at San Miguel Corporation’s Telco Group and concurrent Marketing Head of Eastern Telecoms. He served as Country Director of SingTel Philippines and expanded its business in the country. He was a former Head of Sales and Marketing in Digitel and PhilCom. He was a graduate of BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering from University of Santo Tomas and a licensed ECE.
