AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Although Covid-19 is taking a significant toll on the global economy, people still strive to keep normalcy in their lives through social media and virtual meetings. Likewise, this pandemic sparked creativity and innovation which are not the priority for most organizations in the Davao Region. Development in a macroeconomic scale may have stalled, but the situation gave rise to businesses that adapted to consumer demands.

Regional Director of Department of Trade and Industry –Region XI

Maria Belenda Q. Ambi completed her BS degree in Business Economics at the University of the Philippines – School of Economics Diliman (1978-\ 1982) as a state scholar and earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration major in Policy Studies from the University of South-eastern Philippines under the CSC-Local Scholarship Program (1993-1995). She was also a recipient of a Certificate in Strategic Business Economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific under the scholarship grant of FIDEI Foundation (2015-2016).

She’s currently the Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry – Region XI. She started her career in DTI in July 1988 as Analyst and rose up the ranks. She was appointed as Regional Director in 2015 and was awarded as the 2017 Executive of the Year of the Department of Trade and Industry.
