    Consul General at U.S. Embassy Manila

    Mark McGovern is the Consul General of the U.S. Embassy in Manila,
    Philippines where he leads a very large full-service Consular office that
    includes American Citizen Services, Immigrant and Nonimmigrant Visas,
    Fraud Prevention, and Federal Benefits.
    Previously, Consul General McGovern served as the Principal Officer of the
    U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, Indonesia, where he led a multi-office
    interagency team in diplomatic engagements with 12 eastern Indonesia
    provinces and over a third of Indonesia's population. Prior to Surabaya, he
    served as the Countrywide Consular Coordinator for the U.S. Mission to
    Vietnam and based in Ho Chi Minh City.

    Mark McGovern joined the Department of State as an officer in 2002 and has also had diplomatic assignments
    in Japan, Saudi Arabia, China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. He also has worked in the Counterterrorism office
    and the Bureau of Consular Affairs Visa Office in Washington, DC. Prior to becoming an officer, he was a
    Diplomatic Courier, working from Seoul, Korea and Frankfurt, Germany.
    Before joining the Department of State, he worked for several years with the former U.S. Immigration and
    Naturalization Service in Honolulu, Montreal, and Washington. He also has previous experiences as a high

    school economics teacher, computer software trainer, Wienermobile driver, and as an entrepreneur doing on-
    the-road promotions for several large American companies. Mark McGovern graduated from university in New

    Jersey, which is also his home state.
