AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has compromised comfort in the workplace. A number of companies have laid off personnel, enforced a skeletal schedule, decreased salaries, or worst, shut down.

The delicate situation at work compromises the means to provide a living for our loved ones who are the source of inspiration for striving hard. Given that we are held back from our jobs and salary increases are indefinitely suspended, we must innately know how to manage and maximize our finances through efficient budgeting. This reality is challenging especially at an age when purchasing items is as easy as one tap of a finger.

Essential items have changed as well and we must include face masks, face shields, alcohol, bleach, and disinfectants to our staple goods. Financial literacy and management are considered vital in this time of quarantine wherein we have limited resources and mobility restrictions.

There's no doubt that the tough situation made us realize how vital it is to have money to spare. However, it is one thing to know its worth, and another to put good value into it. Financial management is a skill that some have yet to be developed and the tough ordeal we are facing is giving us a crash course on how to stretch our finances.
