AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Event Details

Despite the social, economic and geopolitical state of various countries surrounding and affecting the Philippines, the World Bank predicts that the Philippines will experience growth by 6.1% in 2020. Such growth is possible through the early passage of the national budget, robust consumer spending, and continuing investments and progress of the Build, Build, Build Program which is expected to create more jobs for Filipinos.

On the other hand, The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas expects that consumer demand will weaken in the first quarter of the year and unless business activities intensify, they cannot ensure the creation of new jobs. Together with this, those who are expecting new jobs should assess themselves if they are equipped with the right competencies and skills when and if new jobs arrive.

The crucial part of job hunting today is the constant changing of job descriptions. As another year enters, the changes brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIRe) is becoming more rapid, modifying jobs and creating new requirements and specifications. Furthermore, as stated by Director Tutay, FIRe will require better technology and infrastructure which will enable more flexibility where business can thrive in while also providing social protection for consumers, workers, and the public; and as a result, strengthen employment facilitation and bridging programs such as internships and On-the-Job Trainings (OJT).

AmCham's Human Capital & Resources Committee invites you to a meeting entitled "Employment Prospects for 2020", to discuss about the latest trends in employment, with the Fourth Industrial Revolutions (FIRe) rapidly changing the course of work, and what both employees and employers should prepare for this 2020. The meeting will be from 10 AM โ€“ 12 NN, on January 17, 2020 (Friday) at AmCham Hall, 2/F Corinthian Plaza, Paseo de Roxas cor. Gamboa St., Makati City.
