Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), derived by using modern agricultural biotechnology tools, are a significant topic in agricultural and food production sectors. Recent discussions however have centered anew on the safety, health, and integrity of GMO/biotech crops, including Golden Rice and GM eggplant, which have been positioned as beneficial alternatives due to their beneficial properties (e.g. nutrition, pest resistance). The commercial introduction of these biotech crops has faced scrutiny and delays due to concerns over health and safety. This meeting aims to deepen awareness and foster a science-based policy discussion on GMOs, and relate how they impact Philippine farming, food, and nutrition.
