David “Chip” Gamble is serving as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy Manila. He returned to the Philippines in September 2020 as a Counselor for Economic Affairs. Chip was previously posted to Manila from 2007-2009 when he served as Deputy Chief of the Immigrant Visa Unit. His domestic assignments include Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Department of State’s Office of Conventional Arms Threat Reduction, and Director for Russia and Central Asia at the National Security Council. Chip’s other diplomatic postings include Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Poland, and Russia. Before joining the Foreign Service, Chip was an Army officer with service in Korea and Afghanistan. While in the private sector, Chip was a national security consultant at MPRI and Booz Allen Hamilton. A graduate from the College of William and Mary and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Chip speaks Russian and Polish. He and Anna Gamble, a Department of State Civil Servant, are from Virginia and have two children.
