Impact of CREATE Act to MSMEs

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

Event Details

The current pandemic has greatly affected businesses and the Philippine government has been finding ways to provide emergency assistance to vulnerable sectors and to keep the economy afloat amid the crisis. MSMEs (micro-, small and medium-sized enterprise) have taken a toll and we all recognize their critical role as drivers of economic growth.

One of the measures to cushion the blow from their financial losses is through the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Act. It aims to support the government's efforts to keep businesses operating and retain and create jobs for MSMEs.

Atty. Margaux A. Advincula

Partner, Business Tax Services at SGV & Co.

Margaux Advincula is a CPA-lawyer. She specializes in tax controversy and tax advisory work for clients in the electronics, life sciences, logistics, information technology, media and entertainment, consumer, business process outsourcing, real estate, mining, and hospitality sectors. In addition to her assignment at the SGV Makati, she is the tax Partner assigned in our SGV offices in Clark and Baguio.

She was seconded to the Ernst & Young (EY) New York to manage the Philippine Tax Desk from 2016 to 2018. She is a member and the former Secretary of the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce, and a member and former treasurer of the Filipino-American Lawyers Association of New York. She is also a frequent facilitator for SGV’s training programs and an SEC-accredited speaker on Philippine Corporate Governance.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas–Tacloban. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws, cum laude, and class salutatorian, from the Arellano University School of Law. She completed her Strategic Management Program from the National University of Singapore Business School.
