Event Details

The Legislative Committee of AmCham Philippines will be hosting a discussion on EPIRA Law Amendments on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the RS Hall, AmCham Philippines, 2/F Corinthian Plaza Building, Makati City.

The proposed amendments to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) aim to address persistent challenges in the Philippine energy sector. Despite the reforms introduced by EPIRA in 2001, the country continues to struggle with high electricity rates and energy insecurity. The proposed changes seek to ensure affordable and reliable energy supply by revising regulatory frameworks, strengthening anti-monopoly provisions, and enabling more robust government participation in power generation.

These amendments, supported by both legislative and executive stakeholders, are intended to reduce electricity costs, attract investments in renewable energy, and improve the overall governance of the energy sector to meet the growing demands of consumers and industries.

The lineup of speakers for this event includes Mr. Frank Thiel, Managing Director of Quezon Power, who will discuss the challenges and opportunities in the Philippine power sector, focusing on sustainable energy and private sector investments.
