Legislative Committee Meeting: International Maritime Trade Competitiveness
The Legislative Committee of AmCham Philippines will be hosting a discussion on The Act Enhancing the Competitiveness of Philippine Maritime Trade on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the Lodge Room, Manila Elks Club, 7/F Corinthian Plaza Building, Makati City.
The Act Enhancing the Competitiveness of Philippine Maritime Trade seeks to strengthen the regulatory environment to support maritime trade in the Philippines. It would address the longstanding concerns of domestic manufacturers, logistics companies, and importers and exporters regarding excessive and unnecessary fees, charges, and surcharges imposed as origin and destination charges by international shipping lines, as well as the imposition of unreasonable fees for the management of empty containers.
The lineup of speakers for this event includes Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco, Undersecretary for the E-Commerce Group of the Department of Trade and Industry, who will discuss the salient provisions of the current International Maritime Trade Bill. Additionally, Dr. Enrico Basilio, Chairperson of the Export Development Council's Networking Committee on Transport and Logistics, will provide insights on regulatory frameworks, the role of public-private partnerships, and the infrastructure improvements needed to enhance the Philippines' competitiveness in global maritime trade.
