AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

The rapid growth of e-commerce, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, makes online counterfeiting or intellectual property theft rampant. Online counterfeiting is both detrimental to original brands and the consumers. Some consumers opt to pay for cheaper but lower quality products rather than the more expensive, authentic items.

However, some counterfeiters fool customers by claiming that what they are selling is original though it is bogus. Adding up these instances can disrupt the business of original manufacturers via revenue loss, excess inventory, fraudulent product liability claims, and damage to brand reputation.

To avoid any kind of harm or disadvantage that we may precipitate towards others, we must engage in collaborative and collective efforts in battling the challenges of online counterfeiting for everyone's benefit.
