Event Details

AmCham's Education committee is hosting a webinar entitled The New Awakening of PH Education Post-Pandemic on July 7 2021, at 2:00-3:30 PM, via Zoom Meeting. The meeting aims to discuss private sector insights and forecasts on the future of the Philippine education sector and share recommendations for the education sector in preparation for the resumption of the new normal.

Among the many adverse effects of the pandemic, the closure of schools and learning institutions has been one of the worst consequences. Despite the shift to hybrid and online learning, the quality of education continues to deteriorate and the number of enrollees to decline hence members of the education sector clamor for a more strategic action in dealing with the learning crisis. Now that the government has begun to cater to the A4 priority category, which includes teaching and non-teaching personnel, more individuals will be vaccinated and slowly resume work outside their homes. Could this be the start of the reopening of schools and the continuation of the developments stunted during the pandemic?

Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo

Policy and Advocacy Manager at Philippine Business for Education (PBEd)

Dr. Luis María R. Calingo is the president of Holy Angel University, a Catholic school founded in 1933 and the largest private higher education institution in Central Luzon. A director of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2018, he has been a member of the Board of Examiners for the US Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award since 1997 and recently completed his service on the Philippine National Referencing Committee for the ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework.

In 2015, Dr. Calingo returned to the Philippines after 35 years of progressively responsible higher education experience in the United States—from strategy professor (1983) to business school dean (1992) to university provost (2009) and president (2012—the second of Filipino descent). He is an alumnus of the University of the Philippines Diliman (BSIE, MURP) and the University of Pittsburgh (MBA, PhD).

Mr. Marco Dominic De Los Reyes is currently the Policy and Advocacy Manager at the Philippine Business for Education. Prior to his engagement in PBEd, he was a research assistant at the National University of Singapore, Energy Studies Institute. In 2019 he was a consultant at the International Finance Corporation, World Bank. Apart from his many engagements, he also worked in the local government under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) where he served as Director III in the Office of the Undersecretary for Legislative Liaison.

Marco received his degree in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines and just recently he received his Master in Public Administration from the National University of Singapore.
