AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Webinar summary:

In light of the recent developments of COVID-19, the logistics sector is one of the most heavily affected industry. Following the webinar with Ms. Doris Magsaysay-Ho on Supply Chain and Logistics, the Infrastructure and Logistics Committee of AmCham will be hosting another webinar with a whole focus on mobility and public transportation. Mr. Robert Siy will be discussing the following points:

A. COVID-19 will have significant impact on mobility and transportation.

B. Because physical distancing and strict sanitary practices will be required on all public transport, the current industry business model will not be appropriate.

C. With the gradual resumption of economic activity, the supply of public transport services needs to adjust in an orderly manner to changing travel demand; government contracting of buses and other public utility vehicles is recommended.

D. Because public transport supply will likely remain severely constrained, one good option for addressing the expected deficit in public transport supply is to promote walking and cycling as daily travel modes.

E. To manage traffic congestion and maximize people throughput and mobility, public transportation, walking and cycling should have priority on limited road space.
