The Philippines' National Mapping and Resource Information Authority or NAMRIA, is an agency of the Philippine government under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources responsible for providing the public with mapmaking services and acting as the central mapping agency, depository, and distribution facility of natural resources data in the form of maps, charts, texts, and statistics.


Following this, it is very relevant for information technology in the Philippines to foster in order to provide a web-native integrated management information and safety and security planning geo-data, especially in times of crisis and calamity. Furthermore, it is as important for businesses in the Philippines to develop an understanding of the Geoportal Philippine Map Apps, and utilize it to effectively promote the safety of their members and staff.

    Cristina Montoya is currently the Officer-In-Charge of Geospatial Integration Division under the Resource Data Analysis Branch of NAMRIA. Cristy is a native from Negros Occidental Province; she is now a mother of two and resides in Parañaque City.

    In 1993, she received her degree in BS Forestry at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños and in 2013 she obtained her Masters of Science in Remote Sensing in UP Diliman. A licensed Forester, Cristy loves to work with nature, she’s been working in NAMRIA for more than 25 years.

    Her division was involved in the implementation of Mapping of Safe Open Spaces in Support for Earthquake Resiliency of Metro Manila in 2019. Presently, her division leads in the implementation of “Participatory Mapping of Existing Land Uses Project” which aims to map existing land uses based on high-resolution satellite imageries. The output of the project is a vital baseline information and input to the development of Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) to ensure proper utilization of land and mitigating development impacts.

    Mr. Benjamin P. Balais is currently the Assistant Director of the Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) of the NAMRIA. He is a BS Statistics graduate and has a Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing. He is a Career Service Executive Eligible (CESE) with more than 25 years of experience in the use of GIS in the field of environmental management; disaster risk reduction & management; and land administration & management. He is part of the training pool of experts of the Geomatics Training Center of NAMRIA.

    He has worked with non-profit organizations, private institutions and non-government offices in providing trainings and developing systems on land information management including real property tax information systems. He has a good understanding of the land-administration-management situation in the country having worked with a number of local government units with classifications ranging from the more highly urbanized First Class Cities/Municipalities to far-flung Fifth Class LGUs.
