AmCham Philippines

AmCham came to life in 1902 as the Manila Coffee Round Table and later as Manila Merchants Association. Incorporated in 1920, it has since then recognized and reconfirmed the commitment of American business to the development and welfare of the Philippines and the Filipino people.

This is a commitment of long-standing, as its mission statement declares:

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of U.S. businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.”

Event Details

The month of March has been known all over the globe as the Women's Month. It is a month-long celebration of women's contributions in our history which traces its beginnings back to the International Women's Day in the year 1911 that started as a women's rights movement. Over a century later, more and more women are making their marks and rewriting history with their names and accomplishments. Women all over the globe have broken stereotypes and gone beyond boundaries. They are continuously regaining their voice and ensuring that they are heard. Despite these developments, the road to women empowerment does not stop.

The Chamber commits itself in contributing to economic progress and nation-building through supporting and empowering women who have been the backbone of homes and businesses, as well as celebrating them as active contributors of development from all across industries. In this time of the pandemic, everyone is put to the test-- the capability to adapt and adjust efficiently. Women of today are not only limited to organizing the household as to what the norm was before. They go beyond that and engage themselves in work outside the home in a more competitive arena. Alongside being professionals, women being the light of the home entails the heavy workload that they have on their plates. On account of the health crisis, women exert the extra effort to achieve their work-life balance given that the home requires more nurturing at this moment because of the adjustments such as homeschooling and work from home arrangements among others. It is safe to say that women have greatly contributed to economic development and the welfare of their families predominantly during this time of the pandemic.

Despite these challenges and difficult times, women still strive and thrive. Women must be celebrated for the many hardships and achievements that they have surpassed to arrive at where they are today. They have come a long way to acquire the respect they deserve, especially in the workplace. Nonetheless, there is still a long way to go to completely achieve gender equality. Equitable measures must be undertaken to empower and uplift women. As a contribution, AmCham together with PMFTC, present the Women's Month Celebration: The COVID-19 Pandemic Through Her Lens" on 9 March 2021 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 NN, a web event that celebrates the accomplishments of women through talks on women empowerment by outstanding female leaders.
